Employees welcome student groups for career learning days

The office visits, called ‘TYWLS Works’ after The Young Women’s Leadership Schools (TYWLS) network that participates, is an annual offering to tenth grade students. Companies across New York City agree to host a group of students for a half-day at their offices.

Each host group develops its own agenda, with a focus on hands-on learning. ‘TYWLS Works’ allows students to meet with professionals representing various industries and skills as they explore possible career paths.

Each Deutsche Bank host group presented a different perspective on global financial services.

On March 13, Deutsche Asset Management’s Women’s Leadership Initiative hosted a group of students from The Young Women’s Leadership School of Astoria.

On March 27, two groups from The Young Women’s Leadership School of the Bronx came to 60 Wall.

One group, VP Women Connect within COO, hosted ‘TYWLS Works’ for the third time in as many years. They introduced students to Deutsche Bank with a focus on technology and operations. Each student completed a 30-minute, 1-on-1 job shadow with an employee volunteer. They also visited the trading floors and heard how technology is changing the way sales and trading activity is conducted.

The second host group, Securitized Product Sales (within Markets-Debt), focused their agenda on the trading floors. Students toured multiple desks and received introductions to products across both FIC and Equities. Then, they applied their knowledge with an energetic mock trading game.

Both host groups also arranged networking lunches where students could meet even more employees.

Across all three events, a total of 68 volunteers from different divisions and levels shared their career experiences and insights.

YWLN provides college preparatory and guidance programs to predominantly low-income students who will be the first in their families to go to college. Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation has supported the organization with grants and volunteers for more than five years. Since 2014, the bank has hosted eight ‘TYWLS Works’ programs.
