IN BETWEEN. BERLIN
Photographs by Friederike von Rauch and Jürgen Frank
Deutsche Bank partnered with German Ambassador Peter Wittig in Washington D.C. to host a special evening of art commemorating the 25th year anniversary of the reunification of Germany. The occasion was marked with the opening of an exhibition sponsored by Deutsche Bank by two outstanding German photographers: Friederike von Rauch and Jürgen Frank.
“IN BETWEEN.BERLIN,” features a series of ten photo-diptychs with selected places and people in Berlin as their subject matter. The visual pairings, in which von Rauch presents architectural landscapes and Frank presents portraits, unites to create a third, poetic experience of contemporary Berlin and a metaphor for the once divided city. The collaboration invites reflection as the two artists bring together in a unique and compelling way who and what has shaped Berlin over the last two decades.
The event was held at the German Embassy and attended by clients and Washington area business leaders. Frank Kelly, Global Coordinator, Public Affairs and Head, Government & Public Affairs, America, spoke at the event along with Liz Christensen, Senior Curator, Deutsche Bank Art, after Ambassador Wittig. At a later date, the exhibition was visited by the German President, Joachim Gauck and his partner Daniela Schadt, as well as a number of other international dignitaries.
Christensen commented, “This project was a unique opportunity to unite artists, businesses, clients and diplomats in the Washington, DC area on this important anniversary of historical significance. Creating a dialogue through art about seeing and better understanding the world around us has been a vital part of our mission for over 35 years.”
