The Circle Walked Casually

The show, curated by Victoria Noorthoorn, Director of MAMBA and a member of the Deutsche Bank Global Art Advisory Council, presents highlights from the Bank’s collection in a poetic installation design. The artworks appear to be suspended mid-air in a seemingly boundless space.

Senior management from across the Bank including Sebastián Reynal, Chief Country Officer, Argentina, Thorsten Strauss, Member of the Management Committee, Germany and Global Head of Communications, Corporate Social Responsibility & Public Affairs, and Friedhelm Hütte, Global Head of Art, had the opportunity to spend time with clients and art enthusiasts including Bernhard Graf von Waldersee, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Argentina.

“The Circle Walked Casually” was originally presented at the Deutsche Bank KunstHalle in Berlin from November 2013 to March 2014. The show includes works from some of the most prominent European, American, African and Argentine artists of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Contemporary artists from across the globe, including Erick Beltrán, Marina De Caro, Marlene Dumas, Jiří Kolář, David Koloane, Laura Lima, Anna Maria Maiolino, Gerhard Richter, Kara Walker and Jakub Julian Ziółkowski, are featured prominently.

Classic Modernist artworks are also on display, along with works by important postwar artists such as Georg Baselitz, Louise Bourgeois, John Cage, Joseph Beuys, Lucian Freud and Richard Buckminster Fuller.

In the new iteration of the exhibition, at MAMBA, these works are complemented by remarkable drawings and prints from the museum’s holdings, including pieces by Salvador Dalí, León Ferrari and Guillermo Kuitca.

The exhibition was inspired by the short story “Genealogy” by Uruguayan author Felisberto Hernández, in which a circle and a triangle fall in love and walk along a horizontal line. With this exhibition, Noorthoorn explores the question “How could a mere line speak of our existence as human beings?” The result is a space where the usual structures disappear, offering new opportunities for the creative mind.

“The Circle Walked Casually” will be at MAMBA until October 2014. Deutsche Bank employees in Argentina receive complimentary admission to the exhibition and clients may be offered guided tours upon request.
